We had a number of animals as I grew up. The first I remember
was a calico cat named Matilda. She lived with us until we
moved to the new house. She wouldn't stay at the new house but
kept going back to the old.
We had several dogs, mostly strays picked up by Uncle
Franklin. The first was Satchel, then one named Bimbo by Mom
but called Bingo, then a small black terrier and then Ike. Ike
lived quite a few years and was a Blue Tick Hound, mix that Mom
rescued from a bad situation at Ocean Downs racetrack where she worked.
I didn't remember her being fond of the animals but the
pictures show more than I remember.
